Upon Those Dying: Self-Titled EP Review

Cardiff's own Upon Those Dying are fairly new to the scene forming in September 2015 they quickly had there debut single “Suffering” released on youtube followed by the release of there self titled EP in March 2016. They are certainly not holding back with this debut effort. Each track holds perfect chemistry with blends of Djent style riffs, big break downs and vocals that remind me of Acacia Strain’s Vincent Bennett.

First track “Lifeless" kicks off with a big euphoric djent style riffage which is captivating in its own right and sets precedent for the record At no point does this EP start to slack off either, each track flowing into the next with ease. With titles such as “Violation”, “Suffering” and “Lifeless” you can already feel the emotions behind this record as each song is as powerful and gripping as the previous. It is very apparent these guys can clearly write absolute bangers.

A personal favourite of mine is “Infections” as it drops with the heaviest intro I’ve had the pleasure of listening to in a long time only to kick into the grooviest verse that’ll get even the better man two stepping. I can only imagine the sort of atmosphere this track would create live.

In a market with metal bands churning out similar sounding records it makes me glad to here artists such as the guys in Upon Those Dying producing such an awesome debut EP. I’d be lying if I said I haven’t had it on repeat all week. They definitely have a new fan here!
